Center for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management
Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer

Entrepreneurial is the most exciting form of human endeavor. It is a cherished social asset that every form of human existence entails. Societies that are more developed are so because they have managed innovation, creativity and ingenuity better than others. On path to providing humane living conditions to our people by creating economic wealth that is equitably distributed, we need more of entrepreneurship that gets translated into meaningful economic activity at all levels.

Entrepreneurship is about the courage to create, and to risk making mistakes in the quest for ideas that lead to a true innovation of a product, service or process. Creativity is the central focus, which might be defined as "the application of a person's mental ability and curiosity to discover something new.the act of relating previously unrelated things." More specifically, society today is concerned with capitalist creativity, which means that solutions must be generated those are profitable and reflect bottom-line practicality.

Today there is a mad rush for jobs. We do not propose that entrepreneurship is an alternative to declining job opportunities. We approach this differently. One, let societies create wealth for them selves and as a means to continually improve the quality of lives of their members by offering them state-of-the-art solutions (products and services) to their routine requirements. We will need inspired imaginative individuals to come up with creative solutions. Let loose the creativity!! Two, there has to be more equitable distribution of wealth. It should rather be equitable creation of wealth and let this not be restricted to few industrial houses alone. Every one everywhere should be able to create wealth and contribute. Most developed economies around the world have greater proportion of their GDP due to small and medium sized enterprises.

Thus, the development of entrepreneur as a potential and exciting career is essential for the over all growth of any economy-national or regional- by way of generating employment opportunities and setting up of micro enterprises using locally available resources to millions of unemployed youth for enhanced productivity.

If self-help is the best help, then self-employment is the best employment and entrepreneurship the most exciting level of self-employment. It provides an opportunity for a person to enter into a process, which leads to realization of their passion for innovation and development. In this career option one has to knock only one door that is one's own self for becoming employed. But the only thing required is that he or she be groomed in an entrepreneurial mould. It is important that youth today-

In Rajasthan, as in many other states, the state government has established various agencies viz., RIICO, RFC, RAJSICO, etc., for speedier development in the state. The small and tiny industries have greater importance in Rajasthan because the state is backward in both the fields- agriculture as well as industrial. The state government has time and again paid attention and has stressed the development of small and tiny industries.

Now, there are schools for engineers and doctors. There are schools for sports and arts. There are school also for science and social sciences. There are schools even for managers. Most education today focuses at creating employability competencies. They create employees. But there are not many schools that create employers. We do not teach the art and science of creating great enterprises in our schools and colleges. They best trained individuals today fall short in confidence and are apprehensive of their abilities to translate their skills in to viable commercial ventures that returns satisfaction and profits for them and employment for many others.

As of now there was no institute of formal education and handholding that motivates, trains, and leads learners to new enterprise creation and managing it professionally. There has been a model of short term entrepreneurship development programme that has been in vogue for quite some time now. Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises MSME (Erstwhile Ministry of SSI), Government of India has for the first time taken an initiative to create an institute for producing businesspersons. Government of India has supported Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University at Ajmer in Rajasthan to create a university based Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) called Center for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management (Center for ESBM) to create businesspersons. Center for ESBM offers a variety of programmes for potential entrepreneurs and young entrepreneurs.

Students in these programmes are challenged to think critically, appreciate context, engage with other learners, and make thoughtful decisions while examining their consequences. In these course, students are expected to gain unique perspectives on how to combine imagination, intuition, reasoning ability and skills at evaluation in coming up with creative solutions to practical business problems. They will be expected to analyze issues and solve a range of complex problems as they apply to the student himself or herself and in a variety of different organizational contexts. Further, students will be encouraged to develop an appreciation for the different assumptions and perspectives employed by people attempting to solve problems creatively, depending on the individuals involved, the organizational context, the market environment, and other contextual variables. Students are also expected to contribute to the learning environment by engaging in intellectual discourse with the instructor and with other students. This applies to each of the lectures, and especially to the creative problem-solving exercises students must complete. Students are not only expected to "be creative" in addressing individual and group assignments, but to critically assess and develop an appreciation for the dynamics involved when an individual or group attempts to "be creative". Finally, there is a strong sense of accountability built into the course in terms of the need for students to come up with decisions that are not only creative, but reflect a high quality level in terms of their creativity. In evaluating the creative solutions produced by students, emphasis will be placed on the extent to which the social, moral and ethical implications have been considered.

A creative beginning is made by Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer. We look forward to it as a small step in a long journey of creating an empowered society driven by ingenuity, imagination and innovation.
